Dr. Kakarla Subbarao a world renowned Radiologist and Professor of Radiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY until 1986. Coming back to India he set up the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad on honorary basis without salary. Chairman for the Indian College of Radiology and Imaging (1993-1998) and President, Indian Radiological and Imaging Association - 1999.
In recognition of his services elevating the standards of Radiology in the country and conducting Continuous Medical Education Programmes (more than 400) throughout the country, he was awarded “Radiologist of the Millenium” at the 53rd Annual Congress of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association held at Bhopal. The Government of India also felicitated him with
“ Padmasree” for selfless services to the nation in the field of Medicine.

BACK TO YOUNG AT 79! A VETERAN IN MEDICAL FIELD
Born in an agricultural family on 25th January, 1925,
Passed MD in Radiology from New York University of Post Graduate Medical School, New York.
Professor of Radiology in Osmania Medical College and Professor of New York College of Pediatric Medicine.
A Fellow of Royal College of Radiologists, U.K., American College of International Physicians and American College of Radiology. ?Presented more than 400 papers in various conferences and published more than 250 articles.
Chief Editor of the recently released book on “ Diagnostic Radiology” written by the Indian authors in two volumes.
Currently member of the Andhra Pradesh State Planning Commission and also a member of many voluntary and service oriented organisations.
Founder President of “ Telugu Association of North America” (TANA) in 1977 and the “Susruta Society of Radiology” USA.
Has been the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “ Hindu Temple Society of North America” for 10 years.
Life member of the “Red Cross Society.

As a full time Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Prof. Kakarla does not draw any salary.
